Are you planning to go out on a little nature trip with your family but are seriously concerned if your kids are actually ready for it? Well, why not go with a test run? Do a ‘trial encampment’ right at your own backyard. Do it for the length of one sunny morning until the next day set-up an outdoors tent; put certain limits over the access to water and some electronic devices, go with food that you can teach them to cook outdoors.

Make it a learning experience, teach them how to set-up camp, how to locate good spots to set-up their outdoors tent, how to make proper and conserved use of some limited necessities that they may have like food, water and batteries.

You can also make it a very fun experience by making a small campfire at night and sharing good campfire stories over marshmallows and mugs of hot chocolate or cool soda, whichever the weather makes your fancy prefer. During the day, you can play fun games like tossing a Frisbee or battling your wits over some challenging board games.

Take the time to spend a weekend of your kids to do this as some sort of practice for when you really take them out “into the wild”. This would surely get them ready and clued-up enough for their next outdoor experience. Not only that, it would certainly build up their excitement and appreciation of the great outdoors.
